Have you ever seen a Squidoo Lens ?? No? Well it’s a fancy place to publish articles.
We just did one called “Caravan Holiday Rentals in Historic Skegness“… You can take a peek if you like: http://www.squidoo.com/caravan-holidays-in-historic-skegness.
“Skegness has its roots in the 9th century during the Viking (Danish) invasions to the east coasts of England. They established a medieval harbour town, which has gradually grown into the tourist paradise we enjoy today. The name Skegness is derived from the Danish for nose and beard, as the Danes would says “skæg” and “næs” because, as some claim that Skegness geographically resembles those very features. Other similar tales refer to “Skeggi” meaning the bearded one!” … go to Squidoo to read more.

Well lots of people saw and enjoyed the partial solar eclipse this week at Gibralter Point, near Skegness. The pictures on the news and on various web sites look stunning… It was possible for the spectators to see the eclipse without the need for special camera filters but spectators did need to wear special solar protection glasses.
I wished I had visited the area now!
The BBC have some more great shots of the solar eclipse on their news site:

Mablethorpe, Skegness and Sutton on Sea will all be flying prestigious Blue Flags and Quality Coast Award Flags again this summer, as the beaches are once again ranked amongst the best in the UK.
(Source BBC: 13 May 2010)
Keep Britain Tidy, the Environmental Charity, only awards the Blue Flags to seaside resorts that can demonstrate they meet stringent standards in cleanliness and have sound environmental management.
Being given the privilege of flying the Blue Flags and Quality Coast Award Flags also demands that each resort has good facilities and information available to visitors.
Blue Flag awards: “This is another national endorsement that our coast is well looked after and we know we have lots to offer visitors again this year.” – Councillor Doreen Stephenson
East Lindsey District Council is delighted the three resorts it manages have again demonstrated that they achieve this standard. The Leader of the District Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, said this summer will be exciting on the East Lindsey coast: “This is another national endorsement that our coast is well looked after and we know we have lots to offer visitors again this year.
“As well as wonderful beaches, we have an exciting programme of festivals being planned, including the Festival of Bathing Beauties in Mablethorpe and the SO Festival 2010 in Skegness.”

The GREAT NEWS IS, is that Skegness, the East Coast’s premier resort town, is booming in 2010 !!
Holiday websites and online caravan sites for the Skegness area are reporting a massive increase in interest and visitor hits over last year. Why? Well we can speculate that the poor Euro rate, sporadic volcano eruptions, flights costs, election uncertainty and a general feeling of financial strive as meant Brits looking to the green and pleasant land for their summer holidays.
So I guess holidays in the UK this year may save some much needed money. Here in Lincolnshire, Skegness has been a popular choice for holidaymakers and this year does not look like being any different.
Yes, Skegness, Ingoldmells, Chapel St Leonards and Mablethorpe offer traditional Brit seaside type holidays, but we think there are many surprises to find and certainly there are plenty of activities to take part in these days. Perhaps you’d like to try climbing, canoeing, quad-biking, cycling, paintballing and of course the ever popular theme parks and rides. There are great attractions for people of all ages too… so you can have a laid back holiday or a full-on no-rest-for-the-wicked holiday… in a nutshell SKEGNESS OFFERS CHOICE !
