Careful with Inflatables by the Seaside

Girl with rubber ringLast year a total of 67 people were rescued on the Lincolnshire coast and just under 250 people were aided by lifeguards.

The beach and seaside can be a dangerous place which is why the LIFEBOAT staff have warned beach-goers to take care when using inflatables on the Lincolnshire coast.

The main danger at Skegness is inflatables being blown out to sea. We have launched major campaigns with local shops to make sure they tell their customers t3o tie their inflatables to a tether. With a strong breeze, you could easily be blown miles out to sea.”.

Skegness Railway Station

Sad news for traditionalists and lovers of rail travel... the historic (but badly neglected)  Skegness Railway Station is being demolished to make way for Network Rail’s £21million renewal of the stretch of track between Boston and Skegness.

No doubt this old Station (opened in 1873) has welcomed millions of tourists and holiday makers to the East Coast town of Skegness.

Chapel St Leonards Endurance Test

Dynamic Duo, Toni Schofield and Tom Wann, from Chapel St. Leonards have set themselves the challenge of a lifetime.

They will attempt a record-breaking “quadrathon” which includes a 13-mile kayak, one mile swim, 16-mile cycle ride and five-mile run. Incredible and an ultimate test of endurance for even the fittest of sports enthusiasts. But it’s all for a good cause as they hope to raise money for National Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline.

The event kicks off on June 25, when Toni and Tom will set off from Hunstanton at 9am to row across The Wash to Skegness.

This will be followed by a one-mile swim from Skegness Boathouse, a 16-mile cycle ride and finish with a five-mile run across the beach to Chapel St Leonards bell tower.

Well we wish them the best of luck. To sponsor Toni and Tom visit www.justgiving.com/ Helpline-Quadathon

16th Season for Fantasy Island 2011

This weekend marks the beginning of Fantasy Island’s 16th season, with a limited selection of rides opening for weekends only until the park opens every day from Wednesday 30th March.

> More information here

The park initially suggested that all rides would be available for the opening weekend, with the exception of Jubilee Odyssey, Millennium Roller Coaster, the log flume and Amazing Confusion. Unfortunately, this no longer seems to be the case as a number of other rides are missing from the line-up. Notable exceptions from the list, revealed earlier today by the park, include Techno Jump which is still being repainted, Jellikins which has reportedly been refurbished over winter, Dragon Mountain Descent as well as a number of children’s rides which will also be unavailable. Wristbands are half price between now and April 3rd due to the limited ride selection.

Millennium Roller Coaster | Volcanic Impact  | Techno Jump | The Beast | Jellikins | Coconut Twist | Log Flume | Rhombus’ Rocket | Fantasy Mouse | Wreckers Cove | Carousel | Formula 2000 | Pony Express | Jets | Toucan Tours | Mini Dodgems | Jungle Truck Ride

Theatre Darling? My Fair Lady in Skegness

The Skegness Musical Theatre Company’s latest musical prodcution will be My Fair Lady and open on Thursday 23rd March for 3 nights.

This well known musical features smash hits such as “I Could Have Danced All Night” and “Get Me to the Church on Time”. You’ll remember it was a box-office film hit in 1964, with Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison playing the lead parts.

Other well known songs include: Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?, With A Little Bit Of Luck, The Rain In Spain, and I Could Have Danced All Night.

It’s a real ‘feel-good’ productions and a couple of hours of pure escapism so it’s no wonder everyone has fallen in love with Eliza Doolittle and the musical.

“My Fair Lady” is at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness from Thursday to Saturday (inclusive) at 7.30pm each night.

Just wanted to make a special mention to the Skegness RNLI Lifeboat Station who keep Skegness holidaymakers safe at sea (and from themsleves!). The RNLI may be invisible most of the time but by golly do they do some sterling work. Please watch a recent video of theirs (YouTube) – we should all appreciate the contribution they make to our lives on this big ol’ island of ours! Or VISIT their website

Sue Draper says…
Hi, I was in Winthorpe on Friday night and saw 1 st hand what a fantastic job you all do. Whilst the rescue wasn’t very nice to watch and frightened both myself and my son. It proved what vital work you do. Without you the man wouldn’t be here now. Keep up the fantastic work you do….youv’e made me feel safe in Skeggy!!! Sue and Luke, Leeds

Simon Godfrey says…
Just by chance was in Skegness this afternoon (27th April)and saw both boats go out on exercise, and waited to watch them being recovered. A rare treat for inlanders like us from Cambridgeshire. Best wishes to crews and other volunteers.
